Make A Real Change In Someone’s Life

At Foster Hope Sports we believe that every child deserves love, hope and joy.

Our mission is to make an impact in the lives of children in foster care and under-resourced communities by inspiring them to achieve their fullest potential, develop their unique skills, and bring joy into their lives through sports.

Children from low-income homes are far more likely to be physically inactive than kids from wealthier households.

58% of community-based sports fees are rising, which means parents are having to pay more for their children to play.

42% of families of middle and high-school students who do not participate in sports but are interested in doing so cite cost as the main reason.

Foster Hope In  Foster Youth

Children in the foster care system find it difficult to have consistency in their lives as they move between multiple homes and institutional placements, sometimes within the same year or even month. The lack of resources and consistency make it difficult for these children to have opportunities in sports.

Sports and esports can provide benefits that help students in and out of school. These benefits include an increase in academic performance, increase meaningful relationships, improve mental health, and decrease delinquent behavior.

Increase Academic Performance

Studies have found that between one-third and two-thirds of foster youth end up dropping out before earning a high school diploma. Those foster youth who do graduate are unlikely to move on to a four-year college. Studies show a strong association between extracurricular activities and reduced student dropout rates. The opportunity to participate in sports and esports can increase academic performance by helping youth succeed in school by giving them a community with similar passions to cultivate purpose, motivation, and joy in their lives.

Increase Meaningful Relationships

Extracurricular activities, such as sports and esports, provide opportunities for foster youth to interact with and create bonds with different peers and adults than they normally would encounter during school. They will have more people to turn to for guidance, advice, and help during their youth.

Improve Mental Health & Awareness

Given that foster youth may be especially disconnected from their school community because of repeated transfers and peer criticism and judgment, extracurricular activities may facilitate a greater feeling of belonging and support. This can improve a child’s confidence and social skills to help them reach their fullest potential.

Decrease Delinquent Behavior

Involvement with extracurricular activities is also associated with decreased delinquent behavior, as measured by criminal arrests, substance abuse, and antisocial behavior. Better behavior means that students can focus on their schoolwork and increase their opportunities in their future after high school.
